There is an increased value placed on peer acceptance and approval, and a heightened attention to external influences and social messages about cultural norms.
Body image and related self-concept emerge as significant factors associated with health and well-being during this developmental phase, as youths begin to focus more on their physical appearance.
UNIQUE was created to raise awareness of these perceptions and reduce the pressure imposed on young people today by celebrating diversity and promoting inclusiveness.
Streetwise is passionate about the well-being of all young people and will endeavour to secure funding for boys work. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to be part of this project by informing young girls 12-19 of this amazing event.

Peers become an important influence on behavior during adolescence and peer pressure has been called the hallmark of adolescence experience. Peer conformity in people is most pronounced with respect to style, taste, appearance, ideology and values. Peer pressure is commonly associated with episodes of adolescent risk taking such as;delinquency, drug abuse, sexual behaviours and reckless driving because these activities commonly occur in the company of peers.
Affiliation with friends who engage in risk behaviours hasbeen shown to be a strong predictor of an adolescent’s own behaviour !
CAN PEER PRESSURE BE A GOOD THING ?
Peer pressure can have positive effects when youth are pressured by their peers toward positive behaviour, such as; volunteering for charity, positive health awareness and excelling in academics.
Unique aim to widely cultivate this notion as a ‘norm’
